The women claim that they were not provided with basic toilet facilities at their workplace

The two women, Karen Doyle and Linda Lyons who both worked at the kiosk for Spike Island Tours at Kennedy Quay in Cobh, claim that they had to lobby for safe working conditions and eventually had to turn to their trade union Unite for support for basic toilet and sanitation rights

In July the company installed a portaloo on the pier for staff but the women now claim that they have been dismissed from their employment at the kiosk and they have accused their employer of victimisation

The two women have mounted a petition on Kennedy Quay and flyers seeking support are being handed to tourists inside the Spike Island tour brochure before they board the boat to the island

Speaking to RedFM News in the past half an hour, a spokesman for Spike Island Tours says they are aware of  the issue and are currently preparing a formal response however they strongly refute suggestions that staff were not provided with facilities and say their seasonal contracts have concluded but say the terminations are not as a result of issues raised by workers
