The country's trolley crisis will never be solved unless the Government agree to adopt a "Covid-type" approach to the issue

The National Ambulance Service Representative Association says the resources of the state need to be put into the health service to allow the recruitment of more staff and the release of more step down beds

Staff were called in on days off to Cork University Hospital over the St Patrick's weekend in order to cope with the demands placed on doctors and nurses at the overcrowded ED

Today 80 people are waiting for a bed at CUH as staff continue to cope with a chronic shortage of bed capacity in the hospital system

Speaking to RedFM News Brendan Flynn of NASRA says the trolley crisis has a far reaching impact

"It needs substantial investment and probably needs a COVID type response, where the resources of the state are put into health. We have a trolley crisis every winter since as far back as I can remember, and I have no doubt that if things continue, we'll have one next year and the year after"
