Met Eireann says a Status Red wind warning may be issued for tomorrow, as Storm Eunice arrives in Ireland.
A status yellow wind, rain and snow warning will kick in for the entire country from 1am tonight, with mass power outages and coastal flooding possible.
A number of southern and western counties will be under a Status Orange wind warning from 5am to 11am tomorrow morning.
However forecaster with Met Eireann Gerry Murphy say winds may be more severe than previously expected.
"We have orange warnings for Galway, Clare, Limerick, Cork, Kerry Wexford and Waterford, and the rest of the country is under a yellow weather warning.
"There is a possibility that those warnings could be upgraded in some counties when the whole thing is reviewed when we go through the morning.
"Storm Eunice looks like being a very significant storm."
