A Status Yellow Weather Warning is in operation across Cork.
Up to 50 millimetres of rain is expected to fall here as well as Kerry, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal over the next 48 hours.
The poor conditions are the tail-end of Hurricane Sam which has been active over the Atlantic.
The warning is in operation until 3am on Saturday.
