Storm Francis Update Tuesday Morning

Gardaí are advising motorists to avoid Bantry town this morning after parts of the N71 were damaged by flooding associated with Storm Francis over night.

The towns fire service were dispatched to the centre of the town at midnight due to severe flooding in New street, main street, barrack street and the Square.

Units of the fire service assisted business owners in the area, however it's reported that many business and homes have been severely damaged.

It's believed the issue was caused by a collapse of the culvert.

There was also flooding in Bandon town overnight.

Bridge Street and South Main Street flooded with reports that underground pumps installed to avoid flooding did not activate.

Elsewhere the R666 is flooded and impassable around five miles outside Fermoy towards Ballyduff.

The Kilbrittain to Bandon Road and Forrest Road in Carrigaline are both flooded and there is a tree down at the IFI in Cobh.
