The five City Trees were installed on Patrick Street and Grand Parade in August 2021 to combat air pollution.
The cost of the project proved controversial at the time, with then Lord Mayor Cllr Colm Kelleher heckled by an onlooker during the official unveiling.
Figures released show one of the City Trees has consumed over 222,000 litres of water, while all five have used as much electricity as the average home uses in a year since they were installed.
Speaking to RedFM News, Jude Sherry says the city would be better off planting real trees in the city:
The City Council says each City Tree moss wall uses the same amount of water as is used running a washing machine once a day for a year.
The local authority also says it has felled very few trees in the city centre and will have planted 9,000 trees between the start of 2022 and the end of this year.
