People who are planning a sea swim over the bank holiday are being urged to check carefully for rip currents.
They are strong currents, away from the beach, that can drag anything caught in it out to sea.
The lifeboat service recommends swimming sideways, parallel with the beach, to escape it.
Killian O'Kelly, Water Safety Education Manager with the RNLI, says there's a risk of rip currents in parts of Ireland this weekend:
"We're expecting quite a lot of swell on the South and West coast this bank holiday weekend. So a beach that you've gone to before. that's normally calm may have a little bit of swell on it. So just if you see waves and you see swell, just be careful around rip currents, or rip tides, as some people call them, because the swell conditions can actually create rip currents. Just be mindful if there's a lot of waves.
