The Tánaiste says he cannot comprehend why someone would own a restricted breed of dog.

It comes after Pitbull terrier was shot dead yesterday after attacking residents at a home in Ballyphehane at around 20 past 5 yesterday evening.

A man and a woman were taken to Cork University Hospital to be treated for injuries while the dog was shot dead by the Armed Response Unit after multiple attempts of sedation.

The attack comes just days after 23-year-old Nicole Morey died after a Bully XL attacked her in Limerick.

Speaking to RedFM News, Tánaiste Micheal Martin says a hard line needs to be taken on restricted dog breeds:

"I cannot comprehend why someone would have a restricted breed, and we need to take a hard line on this because children play in back gardens, in parks. It simply is too dangerous"
