The Tánaiste says a flood relief scheme in Midleton is a top priority for the Government.

Local home and business owners say as soon as a drop of rain falls, they worry their properties will flood as they did during the after math of Storm Babet last October.

Cork County Council says its been recommended that immediate flood interim measures be put in place before the relief scheme is implemented.

Speaking to RedFM News, Tánaiste Michéal Martin says although a flood relief scheme in Midleton is a priority, it will take time:

"Flooding is a top priority. But in all flooding schemes, engagement with local stakeholders is key. I would be keen to see us accelerate the plans for a flooding scheme to be developed here, and I hope we can do that, because if anything you know, recent events tell us we don't have too much time. Invariably, putting flood schemes in place takes time".
