Speaking to the Irish Farmers Association, the Taoiseach said last years Climate Action Plan empowers farmers with a science based approach to addressing emissions, including improving the genetics of cattle.
The Taoiseach highlighted extreme weather, rising sea levels and the destabilisation of climatic cycles as a threat to our way of life.
Micheál Martin says the government will help farmers adapt and face these threats:
"This is a significant moment for Ireland and its farmers and we all know of the challenges facing the sector and the changes that need to be made are substantial. I will not downplay the challenge of decarbonisation, that faces the country and the world, however I'm here today to stress that this government will stand behind its farmers as we all adapt to these changes."
