The Taoiseach says he has full confidence that the HSA will carry out a full investigation into an incident at Stryker earlier this week that left a man in critical condition in hospital.
Leo Varadkar was speaking in the city today, three days after emergency services rushed to the scene of a titanium fire on the roof of one of the US med-tech companies buildings in Carrigtwohill.
The issue was raised in the Dáil last night by East Cork TD Pat Buckley, who read out a long list of incidents at the facility over the past few years.
Deputy Buckley also said he has no confidence in the HSAs ability to properly investigate matters at the company.
Speaking to RedFM News this lunchtime Taoiseach Leo Varadkar says his thoughts are with the families involved:
"First of all, my thoughts are with the people who have been injured. Everyone needs to be sure that they're safe at work. I know the HSA was given considerable additional resources in last couple of years. Minister English and I were the ministers where the Minister responsible for that in the last couple of years. I want to extend my best wishes to the people who have been injured. And I think it is important that there is a full investigation as to what happened and why. But I don't want to go any further than that at the moment until that's done, but I know we'll be done that it won't just be done by the company, it'll be done by the HSA as well".
