The Taosieach has appealed to the County Council to "have a heart" in relation to the retention of Piper's Showman wagon in Kinsale.
His comments come ahead of a public rally this weekend as a show of solidarity after the traditional funfair was instructed to move the wagon off the Short Quay - The Taosieach has appealed to the County Council to "have a heart" in relation to the retention of Piper's Showman wagon in Kinsale. home for 90 years.
The organisers of the rally on Sunday afternoon say they want the wagon returned to Short Quay and they also want to see the return of Pipers funfair to the town's car park without increased rents.
In a statement issued to RedFM News this week the Council says the rent it charges the Piper family for use of the car park for the funfair in the Summer months has been, and continues to be, heavily subsidised. The council says the new rental charges reflect a contribution to the council services provided in the town and which would be enjoyed by visitors to the funfair.
The Piper Family say the increases put the funfair’s entire future in the town at risk.
The matter was rasied in the Dail by local TD Christopher O'Sullivan leading the Taoiseach to appeal to the council to take on board the petition signed by 2,000 people.
"I think you've made a very eloquent case for the retention of Piper's Show wagon in Kinsale.
"I would ask Cork County Council to have a heart in relation to this, and we will engage.
"We must in our community have a community based response, and if 2,000 people have signed a petition for something that's 90 years there that merits a warm hearted response from the authorities."
