The Taoiseach says he will be contacting the Minister for Health regarding a report into the incineration of babies' organs by Cork University Maternity Hospital.

Micheál Martin was speaking in the Dáil yesterday following a question from Cork TD Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire about delays in releasing the review.

A draft review into how the organs of 18 babies were sent to Belgium with clinical waste at the start of the pandemic has been completed, however the families involved say they have been repeatedly told that the release of the report has been delayed.

RedFM News has spoken to some of the families involved, who say the repeated delays in releasing the review are causing them huge upset.

Speaking in the Dáil yesterday, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said he will look into the cause of the delay:

"I will engage with the Minister in respect of this issue, and ask what the delay is in terms of the publication of the review.

"What happened was not in conformity with established protocols it would seem to me, and decisions that have been taken a long time ago arising out of a state enquiry into the the disposal of the organs of deceased babies.

"I will engage with the Minister."
