The Cathaoirleach of the Seanad and Cork TD Jerry Buttimer says yesterday's protests could have led to a Jo Cox moment
Jo Cox was a British MP who was shot and stabbed to death by an extremist as she was on her way to meet constituents at a routine clinic in West Yorkshire 7 years ago
The Justice Minister says she's spoken to the Garda Commissioner about the aggressive protests outside the Dáil yesterday.
13 people have been arrested and charged, with Helen McEntree describing the scenes as disgraceful.
Some TDs and senators required Garda escorts to leave the building, while politicians and staff were verbally abused.
Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show Senator Jerry Buttimer says yesterday's demonstration was bordering on dangerous
"Yesterday was not a dialogue and it was was not respectful. It was actually bordering on dangerous we could have had a Jo Cox moment and I'm not being alarmist and if you saw the video footage of Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire who's a TD from Cork and Michael Healy Rae like the Gardai were there and were with them. Now I will pose the question what happens if the Gardai weren't there. This type of behaviour has no place in a civilised democracy"
