The Assistant State Pathologist has described the death of a man who died five days after receiving the Johnson and Johnson Covid-19 vaccine as “baffling”.
23-year-old Roy Butler from Waterford died of a catastrophic brain bleed at Cork University Hospital on the 17th of August 2021.
Roy Butler from O’Reilly Road in Waterford received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine and suffered a brain bleed five days later.
Cork Coroner's Court heard that Roy had complained to friends over text message that he didn’t feel well after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.
He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he died of a "spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage".
Today, Assistant State Pathologist Dr. Margaret Bolster said she couldn’t find a link between the bleed and the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
Dr. Bolster said although Roy Butler's death is extremely rare, she could not “rule it in or rule it out” and more evidence would be needed to connect the brain bleed with the vaccine, and finds his death to be “baffling.”
