The Government has pitched to have SuperValu Pairc Ui Chaoimh used as a venue for Euro 2028 after the news Casement Park in Belfast won't be ready in time for the tournament.

Tánaiste Micheál Martin has said he's been engaging with the UK Government over its decision not to fund the redevelopment.

Minister for Sport Thomas Byrne says the Cork venue would need work but could be an option to keep more games in Ireland:

"We want to keep as many games on the island as possible. Croke park has always been in the mix, UEFA decided not to have it. Páirc ui Chaoimh would need work as would Croke Park to host the games up to UEFA standard. so we certainly put them into the mix. I am conscious that there are obviously other Football Associations apart from the FAI involved in this. And these discussions are ongoing, there's a lot of work done already"
