22-year-old Conor King died in April last year when he and his friends were camping near the blowhole in Garretstown.
Conor's friend, trained lifeguard Gary Barrett, climbed down 50 feet and performed CPR to try to save his life.
An inquest into Conor's death recorded a verdict of accidental death.
Conor's mother Maura paid tribute to his friends who made heroic efforts to save him and she thanked them and asked them to remember the beautiful days they had with Conor.
Maura says her son was very special:
"He was loved because he was such fun and he was kind to all the boys that came to the house when he died, we waked him here at home and they came in droves in and out and everybody had a beautiful story to tell about Conor's kindness."
