In a post on social media Cork TD Thomas Gould said Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien confirmed to him it could be at least another year before there is any movement on the site.
The retendering was ordered to comply with state aid rules, eight years after the sod was turned before the 2016 general election.
Speaking to RedFM News on a recent visit to Bantry, Minister Darragh O'Brien had this to say when asked about the long-stalled project:
"I understand the frustration, like I know the sod was turned on this years and years ago- well before I came into government or I became minister. I want to see this move forward, the Tánaiste and Taoiseach and government do as well. So I think the decision this week is a positive one. The center itself is so important for Cork city and indeed, the region."
