The Sense Of Loss In Knocknaheeny Today Is Palpable

Those are the words of Phil O'Flynn, principal of Terence MacSwiney Community College in Hollyhill

She was speaking following the tragic death of one of the schools transition year students.

The 16 year old girl, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead after the car she was a front seat passenger in struck a wall on Harbour View road just metres from the school and close to her home at 11:45 last night.

Two boys, a past and present student of the school were also in the car when it crashed.

The 16 year old driver fled the scene on foot but later attended the Mercy University Hospital where he was treated for non life threatening injuries, while the two boys in the back seat of the car were brought to CUH where one of them is reported to be in a critical condition.

Speaking to RedFM News, principal of Terence MacSwiney Community College Phil O'Flynn says staff and students have been arriving at the school all day and paid tribute to the student they lost:
