Organisers of the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival are encouraging people wanted to soak up the music to go to their free events.
"The Big Fringe" are a series of events that are taking place in different parts of the city.
Commenting at the opening night event at the Metropole Hotel on Thursday 26th October, An Tanaiste Michéal Martin said, “It has a unique blend of world-class performances, fringe events, and a vibrant cultural experience, all set in our picturesque city of Cork. What more could you want?
“The fact that the festival is now in its 45th year is a testament to the founders and the committee, all of the publicans and hoteliers who pull out the stops over the weekend, support from stakeholders like Failte Ireland, Cork City Council, and Cork Airport…and of course the dedication of Guinness and Diageo, who invest significant time and money into the organisation and overall management of this Festival year after year.”
Last year, more than 100,000 visitors flocked to the city for the weekend with an estimated impact of €45 million to the local economy. This year’s expanded programme features an extra date, more than 100 ticketed shows (a 40% increase on last year), 500 musicians from over 40 countries, and a music trail in 71 pubs, theatres, clubs and hotel venues across Cork city, Douglas and Kinsale.
