Micheál Martin believes Ireland can stay competitive within the market after The US president Donald Trump announced a 20 % tariff on all EU goods last week.
Over 20,000 people in Cork are employed in the pharmaceutical and med tech industry.
Speaking to RedFM News, Taoiseach Micheál Martin says Europe can do more to support the pharmaceutical industry,
"It's a complex issue that I think over time we can hold on to our competitiveness, but it's going to take a lot of effort and a lot of engagement with the companies and between Europe and the US. Europe itself can do more to support the pharmaceutical industry as well, and we will be having that engagement with the European Commission in terms of protection time for IP development and exploitation, and also around access to new medicines and so forth".
