The cold snap kicked in with a vengeance across the country overnight. A nationwide status yellow alert for 'low temperatures and ice' continues until 10 o'clock this morning while a yellow warning for snow and ice comes into effect for Cork tomorrow morning.

Gardaí are investigating the alleged assault and false imprisonment of a man in Cork. He was forcibly removed from his home in the Maryborough hill area of Douglas at around 2.30am on Sunday morning.
