Storm Éowyn is expected to cause widespread disruption across Cork when it makes landfall in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Cork along with the entire country will come under a red alert for wind from 2am until 10am tomorrow with winds expected to gust up to 180 kilometres per hour in places.

Homeowners are being urged to prepare for power cuts, have an emergency kit available and ensure their mobile phones are fully charged.

A Status Yellow rain warning has also been issued for Cork which comes into effect at 9pm tonight for six hours.

Schools across the county will close tomorrow and the Road Safety Authority is appealing to people not to travel during the red alert.
