A Cork man has died after an incident at the Killarney Forest Rally yesterday.

The incident occurred at approximately 2pm yesterday afternoon on the second running of a stage of the rally near the village of Cordal in Kerry.

The car in which the 22 year old and his co-driver were competing went off a forest road with no other vehicle involved.

The event was halted while emergency services attended the scene.

The Irish Examiner report that the man was airlifted from the scene to Cork University Hospital, while his co-driver was taken to CUH suffering from non life threatening injuries.

Gardai are appealing for witness to a collision in which a young Cork man lost his life in Belgooly to contact them.

A 19 year old was the sole occupant of a single car collision on a local road in Knockleigh near Belgooly in the early hours of yesterday morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene - his body has been removed to Cork University Hospital where a post porum examination will carried out.

A status yellow wind warning is in place for the whole country this morning.
Storm Franklin is bringing very strong winds with severe damaging gusts, with the alert lasting until 9am.
