Fire fighters in the city say they are looking forward to engaging in talks with the City Council.

Fire crews called off an industrial action that was due to begin tomorrow after the council said they were requesting the services of the Labour Court to solve a long running dispute with city-based fire crews.

The dispute about staffing levels began in 2019 after the city boundary extension which resulted in Ballincollig becoming part of the area served by the City Fire Service.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation say the overcrowding problem is getting worse in Cork hospitals.

The latest Trolley Watch figures showed that 65 patients were on trolleys in the emergency department of Cork University Hospital yesterday while 27 people were waiting for a bed at the Mercy University Hospital.

Gardai are continuing to investigate if there was a homophobic motive behind the murders of two men in Sligo town.

58-year-old Michael Snee and 42-year-old Aidan Moffitt were found dead in their homes earlier this week.

Mr Moffitt's body was mutilated, and the other victim also had a very violent death.
