The Taoiseach says he will consult with the Minister of State for Disability after concern was raised by the parents of children with disabilities in West Cork.

Deputy Michael Collins says 180 children attending the Children's Disability Services facility in Bantry are due to be transferred from the centre to a section of the Adult Day Care Centre in the town.

Deputy Collins says parents were not consulted by the service provider about a possible move and says the current facility that hosts the children was built at a cost of €1.3 million after being funded entirely by local donations and fundraising.

No major flooding was reported in the city this morning following high tide at 5.15am, although some spot flooding remains in places and motorists are urged to be cautious around the quays in the city.

City Council issued an advisory ahead of the Spring tides this morning and evening as there were concerns that it could lead to localised flooding on low lying streets and quays

This evening's high tide is just after 5.30pm and the Council is appealing to motorists to proceed with caution

Just short of 6,500 people applied for asylum in Ireland in the first six months of this year.

That's a 190% increase on the same period in 2019, according to a new report by the ESRI.

However, it also represents just 2% of all asylum applications received in Europe.

Over 300 people are expected to contact Pieta's crisis helpline this Christmas Day.

The number of people reaching out to the national suicide prevention charity is set to rise by 15 per cent this December, exceeding 10,000 calls and texts.

The charity is appealing to people to light candle in their window at 7 o'clock this evening and reach out to a loved one, as part of their 'Hope Over Silence' Christmas campaign.
