The weather in Cork in January was the driest for almost 50 years

Met Eireann's weather statement for January showed that the weather station at Cork Airport recorded its driest January since 1964, while the station at Sherkin Island had just 34% of its long term average rainfall.

Temperatures for the month were also above average, the fifth consecutive month that mean air temperatures were above their long term average.
