Three Cork city centre pubs are to act as "safe havens" for anyone who finds themselves in trouble in town any time of the day or night
In a post on social media Liam Barry who owns The Bodhrán, Goldbergs and The Pier Head says with the city becoming more unsafe he feels he has a duty of care to try and provide safe opportunities for people to enjoy the city
The post, which has gone viral, is particularly aimed at young people who may encounter problems in town, to come into their pubs and staff there will contact their parents and look after them until they arrive to pick them up
Speaking to RedFM News Liam explains what prompted him to take the action
"With the anti social behavior on the streets day and night. The main thoroughfares are where I see the problems, particularly Oliver Plunkett Street where I have a business, where there's constant fighting, the harassing of customers trying to sit outside the premises and enjoy either a cup of tea or a pint and look, it's just, it's a fact of life, so we need to adapt to it and that's what I'm trying to do."
