Three Cork students have won the EirGrid Delivering a Cleaner Energy Future Award with their solar schools’ project.
Leona, Danielle and Raya are students at Christ King Girls’ Secondary School and presented their project at the Teen Turn SciFest STEM Fair.
The group also won a second award as they came first in the Junior Technology Category.
The students’ project aimed to address the large amount of money spent in schools on electricity and the belief that if they had solar panels instead, that money could be used for more academic features to help the school and its students.
The Award was presented to Leona, Danielle and Raya for their project’s creative design and innovative approach.
Speaking about EirGrid’s involvement in the nationwide programme, Errol Close, Head of Strategy and Sustainability with EirGrid said, “My congratulations to Christ King Girls’ Secondary School in Cork on winning the EirGrid Climate and Delivering a Cleaner Energy Future Award at the Teen Turn SciFest Fair recently.

EirGrid, the operator and developer of Ireland’s electricity grid partnered with SciFest to create the climate and energy focused award for its SciFest@School programme.
