Landmarks across Cork will light up at 7 o'clock tonight to mark Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.

The day is intended to achnologe to the impact that the loss of a baby has on their parents.

People can join the global Wave of Light event later, to highlight the effect of miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal death.

Over 120 monuments, landmarks and buildings across the country will light up in blue and pink in memory of the babies who've died.

Included in these are Cork University Hospital, County Hall, the Quad at UCC, the Kindred Spirits Choctaw Memorial in Midleton, Spearline in Skibbereen and Cobh's Belvelly Castle.

Last night, those who have experienced pregnancy or infant berievement attended the annual, non-denominational, CUMH Service of Remembrance at the Sacred Heart Church on the Western Road.

Feileacáin coordinator Nina Doyle says it's vital to honour parents and their loss:

"It's so important to raise awareness and to let people know how proud we are to be parents, you know of our babies, and that we want to celebrate their existence and celebrate the fact that we have become parents and you know, buildings lighting up is just so symbolic".
