Today is set to be the warmest of the year so far as the heatwave continues.
Temperatures could reach above 31 degrees in parts, with six counties under a status orange weather warning.
The rest of the country has a status yellow alert - both run until Friday.
Paul Downes is a forecaster with Met Eireann and says Athlone could be the hottest place in Ireland today.
"There's been temperatures of up to 30 degrees the last few days, but today looks like pushing it a bit further.
"It'll be into 30 or 31 in some places, in the midlands especially, around Athlone which looks like one of the warmest spots in the country.
"The south will be a little bit cooler as the sunshine turns a little bit hazy in the afternoon."
