Staycationers are keeping the Irish Hospitality sector alive during a very difficult time, according to a
Cork hotelier.

Owner of the Vienna Woods Michael Magner says hotels have been busy since reopening almost two months ago and
will be even busier now that 100 people can attend a wedding.

The hospitailty and tourism sector was one of the worst hit by the pandemic with the loss of all business travel and conferences.

The five-day moving average of Covid cases has risen by only 7 per cent over the past week, compared to 67 per cent the previous week.

It now stands at 1,272 - after 1,361 new infections were reported yesterday.

The HSE's chief clinical officer, Colm Henry, says cases have started to 'plateau' over the past few days.

A special meeting of two Oireachtas committees is taking place today to deal with concerns raised by the President.

Michael D Higgins has criticised the amount of legislation he's being asked to consider in a short space of time.

He says he had to deal with 19 bills in the first three weeks of this month, just before the Oireachtas summer break.

There's a call for three extra bank holidays to be introduced in Ireland.

People Before Profit is making the call today, as it prepares to unveil its Bank Holiday Bill.

It wants to see people allowed to take February 1st, the last Monday in September and the last Monday in
November off.
