The tourism and hospitality sector has welcomed the news that Ryanair are to resume flights to 20 destinations from Cork Airport.

The budget airline yesterday announced plans to base two aircraft and 60 staff at the airport on a phased basis from December 1st.

Ryanair say the €200 million move will fully restore their connectivity from Cork by summer next year.

Management at the airport say they expect hundreds of thousands of passengers to avail of the flights and say further announcements are in the pipeline.

Speaking to RedFM News Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson says they are delighted to have reached a deal with Cork Airport.

"I think we're going to have an injection of we estimate about €150m in the region here.

"It's from hat people spend when they get here, from people returning from abroad and also from tourists.

"Movement of people generates economic growth and we're part of that, and we're delighted to be back here."
