Tourists aren’t spending as much money as usual on holiday in Cork this summer.

That’s according to a hotel owner in Clonakilty who says although there hasn’t been a decrease in footfall in the town, people aren’t spending as much on food and drinks.

The tourism and hospitality sector has been calling on the Government to reintroduce the 9 percent VAT rate to help businesses with rising costs.

Speaking to RedFM News, Tom O’Donovan of O'Donovan's Hotel in Clonakilty says tourists are also feeling the pinch of the cost-of-living crisis:

"For every foot that's passing, the spend is less. All these increases have also impacted on the tourists, and they're just spending less being a little bit tighter with their money. We're lucky, we find accommodation is good, we're actually full all the time, but full with a lesser spend from each individual in relation to the add-ons that they'd have here in the hotel"
