Traders in Blackpool who can’t get flood insurance are becoming increasingly worried about their business.
The lack of flood protection in the area was one of the reasons Dunlea’s Café on Thomas Davis Street made the decision to close its doors last week.
A flood relief scheme has been in the works for over 10 years by the Government.
Speaking to RedFM News, Chair of the Blackpool Regeneration Group, Denis Fitzpatrick says flood measures need to be put in place to reduce business owners fears:
"Well obviously they're concerned because they can't get insurance and they're being hit by flooding, I can't get insurance on my house, flooding is going to occur again and we need to be prepared for that and build resilience to it."
Huseyin Tufan opened a turkish barbers in the village 2 months ago and needs to repair shop floors which were damaged in last year's floods.
Speaking to RedFM News Huseyin of Tufan Turkish Barbers says if the shop floods again, he won’t be able to stay open:
"We just started the business 2 months ago, I have some damage from the flood last year, I will try my best but if it happens again like last year I won't be able to keep my business open."
