Traders in the City Centre can see the light at the end of the tunnel following confirmation that all major stakeholders in the Events Centre are committed to the project.
The sod for the 6,000 seater stadium in the city centre was turned in February 2016, however the project has been repeatedly stalled by issues such as funding and planning appeals.
Promoters Live Nation, the Council, and developers BAM have agreed to move forward with the project, however it may be 2023 before construction begins.
Speaking to RedFM News, Cork Business Association President Eoin O'Sullivan says the latest update is very welcome.
"It's something that has been put on the backburner, even as far as conversations go in the city centre.
"As we got this latest news it's a light at the end of the tunnel for this latest project.
"Obviously the business community are very eager to get this over the line.
"Anybody who is considering a conference globally, Cork would be a great location.
"We've seen the city transform over the last couple of months with outdoor dining, there's a great atmosphere in the city."
