A leading national Travellers Rights group has supported a call on comedian Jimmy Carr by the Cork based Traveller Visibility Group to meet them when he performs in Cork in May
TVG appealed to the comedian to met them after comments he made about gypsies and Roma murdered in the Holocaust in his Netflix comedy special His Dark Material
Jimmy Carr is due to play two nights at Cork Opera House on the 28th and 29th of May
Pavee Point is backing TVG's decision to reach out to the comedian as they described his comments as "appalling and racist"
Cork TVG is not calling on the Opera House to cancel Jimmy Carr’s performances, as they feel more good might come through engagement and education.
Speaking to RedFM News Martin Collins of Pavee Point says he backs TVG's approach in this matter
"TVG, I think they are taking the right approach, you know, to reach out and have a conversation with Jimmy Carr. And I'm sure TVG representatives will make it very clear to him., the great offence and hurt that his comments have caused. And in fact it went beyond hurt and offence, in my opinion it was glorifying genocide"
