A prosecuting barrister has claimed that a 24-year-old man told his cousins that he had been stabbed by another man on a street in Mallow before he collapsed and died.

26-year-old Tyler ‘Tiggy’ Jackson formerly of Ballydeheen West, Mallow Co Cork has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Conor Quinn on Bridge Street, Mallow on the 12th of July 2018.

Prosecuting counsel Ray Boland senior counsel outlined the State’s case to the jury of eight men and four women at the opening day of the trial at a sitting of the Central Criminal Court in Cork today.

Mr Boland said it would be the prosecution’s case that Conor Quinn and Tyler Jackson had some knowledge of each other and claimed that there was some animosity between the pair.

He told the jury that Conor Quinn left the car he was travelling in on Bridge Street in Mallow to confront Tyler Jackson at 8:38pm.

He said there was a physical confrontation and said it would be the state’s contention that Tyler Jackson struck Conor Quinn in the chest with a knife before running away.

He claimed it was the second interaction between the men in Mallow that evening.

Mr Boland emphasised that there was a presumption of innocence in the case.

The trial continues tomorrow in front of Ms Justice Eileen Creedon and the jury and is expected to last two weeks.
