Tributes have been paid to an eight-year-old boy who died after he was hit by a car while cycling in Carrigaline.
André Ladeiro was with one of his parents and a younger sibling when the incident happened at the Ballinrea roundabout on the Cork Road into Carrigaline after 9 o’clock on Saturday morning.
He was taken to Cork University Hospital and then transferred to Temple Street Children's Hospital where he passed away on Wednesday evening.
André attended Owenabue Educate Together National School since September 2020 and the school say they're "shocked and devastated" by the loss of the second-class pupil.
Speaking to RedFM News, local councillor in Carrigaline, Jack White says the community is still in shock.
“There was huge sadness and devastation yesterday when the news broke out that poor André had passed away,” Cllr White said.
“It was an awful few days; people were thinking about him constantly since they heard about the accident on Saturday.
“To get the news that poor André had passed away was devastating.
“We’re all thinking of his… beautiful Portuguese family who have been living in Carrigaline for the last number of years.”
