Tributes have been paid to UCC professor John A Murphy, who has passed away a the age of 95.
Professor Murphy was was appointed Professor of History at the college in 1971, serving in the role until 1990 and was appointed the first university historian in 2016.
He was also twice elected to Seanad Eireann, and was named Cork person of the year in 2005.
Taoiseach Micheal Martin led the tributes to Professor Murphy, calling his former lecturer a passionate believer in peace and reconciliation on our island.
