Trooper Shane Kearney from Killeagh is being discharged from Beaumont Hospital today, to continue his recovery at home.
The 22-year old East Cork Private was seriously injured in an attack in Lebanon on the 14th December.
Private Kearney was serving as a UN peacekeeper in the Middle Eastern country when his armoured vehicle convoy was attacked
24-year old Private Seán Rooney from Donegal and Drogheda was killed in the same attack.
A spokesperson for the Defence Forces confirmed to RedFM News that Trooper Kearney will still require further medical treatment later in the year but that medical staff are satisfied with his continued and steady progress.
His progress is allowing him to continue his recuperation at home with his family in Killeagh.
