The trustees of St. Vincent's Secondary School in the city say they were left with no other option but to withdraw from a controversial plan to amalgamate the school with another school in Farranree.
The move ends weeks of uncertainty for students and parents from St Vincent's who said they were not consulted about the decision to merge with North Presentation Secondary School.
In a statement yesterday the school's trustees, the Religious Sisters of Charity, said the school will remain as an all-girls school on the present site on St Mary's Road.
The statement also went on to say that they acknowledge with regret the potential impact the decision will have for the North Presentation School community.
Speaking to RedFM News, local Councillor Kenneth Collins says its not yet known what impact the move will have on the school in Farranree:
"I don't want to be reading into things but it isn't just that it could be an impact here for an oral presentation is that it would go coeducation on its own and try and get by them. I don't know what to say and what that means."
