UCC protestors have stood down their Palestine encampment after reaching a deal with the college regarding cutting ties with groups connected to Israel.
Members of UCC BDS set up the encampment on the Quad six weeks ago as they called on the college to condemn the Israeli State for the ongoing war in Gaza.
Several attempts to broker an agreement were made during the six weeks and a breakthrough was finally reached following a further round of talks
Speaking to RedFM News Ainsley-Kay Rucker of UCC BDS says the camp served it's purpose however they will be continuing with their advocacy
"They have not agreed to all of our demands as of yet, that's why we will be continuing our advocacy, though we believe that a significant amount of our demands have been reached. It was sort of a tipping point where we believe that the encampment itself had played its use, we got what we wanted out of that, and the continued advocacy after that would be the avenue towards more demands being met"
