UCC has been forced to reopen a food bank for struggling students
In a post on their Twitter page the students union wrote that they were disheartened to announce the reopening of the service today due to increased cost of living, the cost of being in higher education as well as many other issues putting students under financial strain.
UCC’s website estimates that students can expect to pay a minimum of €500 per month rent in a house share, and up to €1,000 per month for a room in some student accommodation complexes.
The Irish Examiner reports that the overall monthly cost of living for students here is estimated to be up to €1,880 per month.
The food bank will provide non perishable items as well as hygiene product hampers.
