A team of UCC researchers have been awarded €3.5 million to develop a way of convert waste heat into electrictity.
The project will involve experts from Ireland, Germany, Latvia and Spain and aims to find a way to develop a reliable, low-carbon technology that produces power.
Researchers say up to 70% of all the heat energy produced in homes, offices and factories evaporates into the atmosphere every day.
UCC's Tyndall National Institute will lead the four year project, which it's hoped will lead to the manufacture of a device that can power wireless sensors and wearable tech.
