The funding is from ‘RADICAL’- The EU's research and innovation programme

The research team is made up of industry experts and academics from five EU countries and aims to create low cost electrical sensors for detecting harmful particles in the air.

It's planned that the devices will also be used to monitor air quality on the likes of airplanes and ships.

The EU says air pollution is a lead factor in the cause of over 400,000 premature deaths in Europe every year.
