The Students Union at University College Cork say they will strike if a decision to increase rent at the University’s student accommodation by 3% is not reversed.
The union are also demanding UCC freeze rents for three years.
Student Union President Ben Dunlea delivered the ultimatum in an open letter to UCC President Patrick O’Shea following the announcement that rents would increase for the next academic year due to a rise in the cost of security, maintenance costs and refurbishment.
The Students' Union say UCC’s accommodation has increased 19% in the last three years and warns a lack of action on the matter will lead to strike action.
