UCC has submitted further information to City Council about their plans to redevelop the landmark former Cork Distillers' Bottling Plant on the North Mall.
The information was supplied to the Council as part of a planning application which would see the Distillery Fields site subsumed by the Tyndall National Institute.
The University wants to use the site as a major nanoelectronics research building.
The original plans caused concern with one online petition describing the building as "one of Cork’s last great examples of mid-century industrial heritage."
The Irish Examiner is reporting that UCC's updated plans would retain, refurbish and integrate the "noteworthy" architectural elements within the new development.
