Uisce Éireann says the issue of water discolouration in Cork has been going on for too long.
Thousands of residents across the city have been complaining of brown dirty water coming from their taps for 2 and a half years.
The water provider says it’s continuing to carry out flushing works while it replaces old cast iron pipes across the city.
Brian O’Leary from Uisce Éireann told RedFM News there will be a huge improvement to Cork’s water supply halfway through this year,
" It has been going on for too long, and we do have a firm plan of action in place by the middle of this year, one of the key strands of our action plan is to have a conditioning system up and
running. We believe that will make a big difference to the interaction on the network we're not solely relying on that. We can't expect people just to wait till mid year, and that's why
we're going ahead with our plan flushing programs, but the longer term piece really is replacing the cast iron mains, and we have a problem for replacement which we're continuing to roll out".
