Some under-13 football players and their parents have been left very upset after their football league refused to postpone their underage cup final.
The Irish Examiner is reporting that Avondale United's U-13 Girls team cannot field a team in today's final because 9 of the team's 16 person squad are getting their Confirmations.
Avondale Avondale United's U-13 Girls Team won their semi-final on Monday but cannot field a team for today's shield final in Cobh.
One parent is said to be annoyed that they are being asked to choose between the final and the Confirmations.
The paper says that Avondale have offered to play the final on another date, at a time and place - that suits the other finalists.
According to the Irish Examiner, the Cork Women and Schoolgirls Soccer League says that teams were notified of the date of the final on the 28th April and that they were only notified that Avondale could not field a team four days before the final.
The league offered to let the defeated semi-finalists, Riverstown, play in the final instead of Avondale, but their coaches declined as it's said they didn't feel it was in the spirt of fair play.
The final is set to be played today, but it is still unclear who will be competing.
